It had potential to be so good.John Conner, the future war, so simple story to tell. But then no, we got the Marcus garbage and for a movie about the future war with the robots, we see no actual war. Humans fighting machines? No we don't want that in our future war movie. Just have humans talking and drama non stop, make sure we see no actual action.
The opening segment is such a prime example of this. We see the after part of a battle, helicopter lands. Oh shit dead terminators on the ground. Oh we are skipping the actual battle. Wait where is the battle shown in the trailer? Nope apparently cut.
I remember being upset that this song was used at the time because Trent Reznor's falling out with Interscope was still fresh at the time so the belief at the time was that he was not at all involved with green-lighting this song for this trailer (not sure if that was ever proven to be the case or not). Frankly, I would be surprised if he did simply due to the importance of this song to him.
He killed the original music video for the song because he didn't like it but green-lights it being used in the most corny and literal way possible in a trailer to what was a beleaguered franchise even at the time? I just have a hard time buying that but hey, that trailer would've been 10 years after The Fragile and he changed quite a bit since then and generally doesn't seem to take issue with his music being licensed out now so I could totally be wrong but again its the importance of that specific song that makes me question that. Funny story about this trailer, I actually cut together an edit of the unreleased The Day The World Went Away music video that Trent never released with the Quiet version of the song in 2008. Parts of the song featured in this trailer, it’s basically a remix. Once this trailer came out and the song got a boost in popularity, the views on my video increased dramatically. I had forgotten about it but just checked and it’s sitting at 2.3 million now.
Before the Terminator trailer it was at couple thousand.
